Cheated on After 2.5 Years- How Do I Go On?
Question by : Cheated on after 2.5 years- how do I go on?
I was cheated on by my boyfriend of 2.5 years. We were planning our engagement and always talked about our future together. I felt like I had found the person I had been looking for my whole life. He told me over the phone that he cheated on me, was not in love with me anymore and was still in love with her. He couldn’t even face me and give me the respect I deserved.
How do I move on from this extreme heartache? How could he talk about me being his wife, the love of his life, the person he was put on this earth for and so much more and then “fall out of love with me” in four days and back into love with someone else? He constantly talked about our future, wanting to add me to his bank account, how he made decisions based on our future together and how he wanted to be the best man he could possibly be for me.
After 3 weeks of trying long distance, he got a new job and moved back to my city to be live me because he said missed me so much he couldn’t spend another day without me by his side. We just went to New Orleans and he planned this amazing trip and spent $ 3,000 on me there.
He has since quit his job and moved back to Houston.
And it’s not like she is a better girl than me- she stripped behind his back while they dated, has a horrible drug addiction and spent 6 months in jail.
I feel like I’ve been hit by a Mac truck. My heart is shattered and I don’t know how to keep on going. How could this have happened so d@mn quickly?
I feel like a piece of trash he threw away and like I never actually mattered to him. I know that’s not true but I can’t help but feel this way. Now I’m stuck with the heartache, living in our condo, crying over him while he’s with her forgetting about me and the future he so wanted to have with me.

How do you go on? The best that you can. Losing a relationship is a lot like going through a death. There is a lot of grieving, and in time it is better. All the things that people tell you like he wasn’t work it, or he lost out, etc. don’t help all that much. You just have to grieve. People are trying to help you, but you have to get through it on your own. In some ways it is worse than dealing with a death, because when they are gone, they are gone. When the relationship dies, you still ask why, what went wrong, why isn’t he calling me right now. It’s painful to readjust your way of thinking. But you will go on because you deserve to have better and you will have better. What happened doesn’t seem to make any sense to me either, as an outsider, and you are looking for it all to make sense somehow. Sorry. Try to get some professional help if possible. The professionals have seen it all and know how to help people in these times of need. Good luck.
