Am I Being Unreasonable?
Question by pjdanner216: Am I being unreasonable?
My husband and I have been separated for almost a year and a half while he’s in rehab for drug addiction. He is currently in Louisiana and I’m in Arkansas. We haven’t seen each other since April 27th. He keeps saying how much he misses me. But instead of coming to spend some time with me around Christmas, he’s going to spend 9 days in Knoxville with his grandmother and other members of his family. I don’t have a problem with him seeing his family for the holidays, especially his grandmother who has dementia and bone cancer but I don’t think it’s too much to ask that I get some time with him, at least a couple of days, for Christmas. He is going to be in Knoxville for 9 days. What’s it going to hurt to spend a couple with me? He’d still have a week with his grandmother and the rest of his family. Am I being unreasonable or don’t I deserve some time with my husband? What should I do?
On top of everything else, he doesn’t send any money for my living expenses. So travelling to Knoxville is out of the question.
And I don’t have a car.
FYI, Before our separation, my husband and I lived in the Memphis area. I left him and went to family in Arkansas because of his drug problem. After I left him, he found a treatment program in Louisiana. He completed a year there and now is in transitional housing. So my location has nothing to do with his drug problem. He has been to see my family in Arkansas before and since our separation. He spent Thanksgiving and part of Christmas here in 2007. Also, the drugs aren’t what I found appealing about my husband. I fell in love with him as a person before he had the drug problem. If the drugs were what I found appealing about him, we wouldn’t be separated, he wouldn’t have gotten help and would still be on the drugs.
